Shiro Studio specific installation for “House of Peroni” explores, through the medium of three architectural models, the relationship between solid and void in architecture.
The three models offer an unexpected perspective of three solids, vertically dissected along their sagittal plane, to reveal unexpected hollow inhabitable volumes. These dissections reveal, almost in an anatomical fashion, the complementary relationship between solid mass and void, light and heavy matter.
Far from the predictable topic of architecture and lightweight structures, the installation investigates the possibility of creating living environments that, rather being built by parts, are actually created by hollow spaces, carved from the solid mass. The dissections are a visual act that clinically expose the fragile yet powerful dialogue created by two opposite states: solid and void / rigid and soft.
The search for this dialectic balance, represented by the three hand crafted models, is profoundly inspired by ancient Roman architecture; the models pay a sentimental homage to the qualities of roman architecture, where the specific relationship between scale, mass and inhabitable elegant environments reached inspiring, unprecedented levels, to a point of becoming inhabitable sculptures.
The installation is a reflection of these lost qualities, no longer associated to architecture, and the question of how this sensual, sculptural relationship could be brought back to life in a contemporary architectural scenario, intimately linked to the Italian artistic heritage.
The installation will be part be of the permanent Peroni Art Collection.
